screen-shot-2010-07-02-at-54426-pm

From Joeff Davis:

Being a music photographer is a tough gig. Between editors, publicists, art directors and the actual artists, it’s rare that an image maker is able to realize his or her singular vision. For this project, we reached out to Atlanta photographers and asked for their favorite shots of local artists, along with the stories of their creation. We wanted to provide a forum for passionate images and the unfiltered voices behind them. In reading their statements, I’m reminded that photographers are very soulful people. They feel more than most.

Yes we do feel more than most, thank you for a great article. Check it out here.

RESPECT is a magazine that pays tribute to hip-hops greatest images and the photographers who captured them.” Quote from RESPECT publisher Jonathan A. Rheingold. Let me say being included in this magazine has to be the coolest thing to happen in my career. I have been grinding for years shooting hip-hop and many times do not feel RESPECT. Thank you for including me in the list of great hip-hop photographers. This is only issue 3 but keep up with these people doing this magazine. It is unheard of in these days to have a magazine with 90% content and 10% ads, it does not exist. RESPECT is a dope photo mag that comes out 4 times a year. This issue features some of my favorite photographers of all time: Platon, Matt Gunther, Rickey Powell, Carl Posey & Chris Buck. To be in the company of these photographers is an honor. I have to thank Sally Berman for pulling for me to get in the magazine, and Kris Ex for the dope interview and transcribing of my words. Please go out and support one of the last pure magazines left!

more than a month agoBig Boi featuring Too $hort & George Clinton “Fo Yo Sorrows”

http://www.vimeo.com/12247566

This video was shot during the time I was covering Big Boi going back to Savannah. We had no idea if we were gonna get Too $hort or George Clinton but we pushed ahead regardless. After shooting Big for 6 days we finally go in touch with Too $hort and bought him a ticket from L.A. to Savannah. Dax had an amazing idea to shoot him in the style of his classic video “I Aint Trippin” and I think we pulled it off nicely. Now all we had to do was locate Mr. P-Funk himself, which did not happen during our time in Savannah. 2 Weeks after we got back to the A, Big called me and told me George was gonna fly in the next day to shoot, and to get something ready… We came up with a funked out backdrop that night and had Big come by and test it out. The next day George showed up to my studio with his two assistants. They literally dropped him off on my steps and rolled out, it was just me, George and Sumner. It was a bit of strange situation but in a very cool way. George kicked it on my couch for about and hour before he asked me if I had a comb. I almost pissed myself laughing but I got it together and calmly told him I did not but that we could send Sumner down the road to get him one. Sumner ran to Target and grabbed a variety of brushes and gel, and we were in the game! George style his hair and walked on set and did his thing. This guy is the only 70 year old rapper/funk singer on the planet and he deserves mad props for showing up and doing this video. I feel completely honored to shoot these 3 funk legends and hope you enjoy the video! Edited by Sumner Demoura.

Here is a clip of Big Boi going back to his Savannah roots, specifically Frazier Homes. I made the trip down to Savannah with DAX and we had a great time. We were the first to go and document Big on his hometurf. Frazier Homes is an interesting one of a kind place. I feel lucky to have had the chance to go and document Big in Savannah. There will be more webisodes to come. Be on the lookout.
